You may have heard of Bioderma’s Bioderm whitening cream.
The product is a cream made of organic, organic ingredients, which is marketed for use on the face, neck and body.
It contains vitamin A and vitamin E to help moisturise skin, but has been linked to a host of health issues including cancer and premature death.
Its skin-whitening properties have been the subject of a lot of hype, with claims of glowing skin, even removing blackheads.
But the claims have been criticised for being unsubstantiated.
In a survey of 1,000 US consumers conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCAM), 70 per cent of those who responded said they did not believe the claims of the product’s skin-brightening benefits.
The NCAM says Biodera’s whitening creams are not as effective as advertised.
“They don’t have the broad spectrum of antioxidants found in other products that can actually brighten skin,” said NCAM’s Dr Susanne Zahn in a statement.
Instead, she says, the product uses ingredients with anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
She says Biorad has been working with skin-lightening experts to investigate the safety of Biorum’s whitenings, and to offer new research to address the claims.
I do believe there are other, better, skin-color-brighteners out there, said Dr Zahn.
While the NCAM said its research was ongoing, Dr Zohn told Business Insider that there had been no new evidence that Bioram’s whiteners were harmful.
Biorum is one of the most-coveted skin-conditioning products on the market.
And if it’s the only skin-blending product out there for your skin, then you may not want to go for it.
There are a lot more whitening products out there that are cheaper, but still leave your skin looking a little blemished, Dr Schilling told Business Australia.
As for Biorums claims of brightening skin, it’s worth noting that Bionym is one company that sells a similar product, with its own skin-shading and whitening formula, called Bioras whitening gel.
It’s also worth noting Biorads claims of “super-whites” are also not true.
Unlike Bionums whitening, Biora’s skin is actually an oily skin type.
A study published in the journal Skin showed that BIONA, which Bioravirus (bio), and BIONYB, both contain high amounts of a protein known as the anti-parasite Bioric acid.
This is why it can also cause skin cancer and other conditions like eczema.
However, BIONIEM also claims its products are the most effective whitening on the planet, with up to 10 per cent more melanin than other brands, and a pH level that is between 6.5 and 8.5.
We don’t know exactly how Bioro’s skin whitening is created, or how BIONE has changed over the years, but it’s clear that Biodara’s formula is a far more potent alternative to the Bionys.
If you want to get in on the whitening trend, you may want to consider investing in a good skin-care line.
